Illegal Activities Concerning Pornography February 15, 2006

I found it very interesting that some acts such as rape, etc. that are illegal in “real life” are actual legal to depict in pornography productions.  In my opinion, if something is illegal in “real life” it should not be allowed to be depicted in porn.  On the other hand, I think that depicting rape in non-pornographic movies should be legal, because even though it is an illegal act, it is something that really does happen, and therefore should be allowed to be shown in certain forms.  I believe that rape in porn should be illegal because this is being viewed by “sick” people who “get off” from things like this.  It is being viewed in a sexual sense.  There would be no other reason for someone to watch porn depicting rape.  The only reason someone would watch such an act is if they get “turned on” by this.

I don’t understand why depicting rape in porn is legal when depicting child porn is illegal.  It is the same concept.  They both are depicting illegal activities in “real life” but one is legal to depict, and one is not.  It seems as though child porn is a more sensitive issue than rape is, and this may be the reason for the discrepancies, but I believe that there needs to be a standard in determining which acts can and cannot be shown in pornography.  Why can one search for porn concerning rape on the internet with no legal consequences, but one cannot search for Kiddie Porn?

That’s precisely why the Supreme Court declared that virtual child pornography is protected by the First. The reason child pornography is illegal is not because it is “sick,” but because it harms children. Whether child pornography that does not involve filming of minors also hurts children is not at all clear.

Likewise, if pornographic depictions of rape really were rape (and some argue that they are), then they would also be clearly illegal. But it’s not clear why you should allow rape in a non-pornographic film (and by this, I expect you mean a non-explicit film), but not in a pornographic one. Would you say the same for murder? How about robbery?

I don’t think rape should be depicted in pornographic films because people are watching these films for pure pleasure. On the otherhand, in non-pornographic films, people may be watching the film to get an education concerning a certain topic such as rape, these non-pornographic films are not watched for purely pleasure as porn is.

Sillyness. Nobody is harmed in the making of rape porn, they’re actors, it’s fantasy. The majority of people that watch them also know rape is wrong and only keep it as a fantasy (or roleplay them, that’s fun too).

People that get off to that sort of thing usually aren’t sick, they’re pretty normal.
